Initial

I LOVE to put a festive holiday wreath on my door, but sometimes there isn't a holiday that is really celebrated and you have those in between months.   So problem solved:

 

Here's the how to on how to make your very own Door Initial!

 

Supplies:

 

Wooden Initial (mine is 10", but you could go bigger or smaller)

Craft Paint

Foam Brush

Ribbon or Trim (for decor, I used ric rac)

Accessories (flowers or buttons)



 

1. To start paint your letter using the craft paint in the color of your choice. I went BOLD since my door is black and I wanted it to stick out!

 

2. Once the paint is dry begin to layout your accessories. I started with my ric rac.

Depending on your letter you may want to omit this, and just use a flower or some buttons just add a little fun to your inital.

Oh my...I am so excited to share this really FUN site with you! It's called Room Mom Spot. It is the perfect blog if you are looking for a fun class treat, activity, teacher gift, or well just a fun idea to do with the kids! I had a blast looking around at all the great ideas and finding fun new treats to make for my kids! Wall Art

For awhile now I have been working to complete rooms in my house, make them my own, add fun details and ORGANIZE! I stress the orgainze part because well....let's face it this is where I lack! I try without much success to keep myself organized and while many people always comment on how orgainized I am, I put on a good show!! Well you know my addiction to Pinterest so of course I looked on there to find some inspiration. To begin I have been looking for somthing to do in my Master Bedroom as I don't feel like it is complete or what I want it to look like. (This is an ongoing battle since my hubby always says "WHO CARES, you sleep there and your eyes are CLOSED!") I care!!With that I found this cool wall stencil idea on Pinterest and got right to work!I used Nannygoat who got her inspiration, and template, from jones design company.I did mine slightly different, first off cause I didn't read all the tutorial before I started, and secondly cause I didn't want to go back and change it! (Read LAZY!)Here is what it looked like as I stenciled the wall:

 I am so SUPER EXCITED in how this turned out and am contemplating doing another one in my living room with a different design in the small built in nook! I hope that you will try one of you own. It was a little time consuming, but so worth it!! 

Family Rules

Being a crafty girl I follow A LOT of sites, blogs, etc. always looking for the next BIG idea or crafty project! About a month ago or so on GroopDealz they had a really cool family rules sign. I wanted one, but wasn't sure I wanted to pay the shipping (it was kinda high just for one item). Lucky for me a friend of mine posted something on facebook about ordering so as a group of 3 we ordered and saved. It arrived the other day and I LOVE it!! It fits perfectly with my gallery wall and forced a little rearranging.Here is my new sign:

 Funny that in the last couple of days as my kids have been fighting I quickly remind them of our family rules!!

Fabulous Find

So one of my favorite places to shop, besides Hobby Lobby and Target is Michael's!

They have a great $1 section and I have found some really great stuff in there to either use as is or get crafty with! The other day the kids and I stopped by so I could grab a couple items I needed, we were heading for the door and it started to downpour, so we wasted some more time and of course in the $1 section!  Well guess what I found?? These: 

They are absolutely perfect for the end of my cabinets in the kitchen and go swell with my color scheme! I couldn't be more pleased with my find. They had 6 different ones and I only got 3, but I'm happy with my selection!!

 I love it when I find what I didn't know I was looking for!

Gallery Wall 2

As I am sure that many of you saw in my gallery wall I combined a lot of different ideas and meshed them together. I thought it might be a great idea to share what I did for each of the items on my gallery wall so that you can create one of you own!!

1. An adorable photo of Jake!
2. A wooden quote (bought this when we first moved in.)
3. Wreath, basically I took a small wreath hung it from ribbon and framed it.
4. Date Art which I found on Pinterest from Andrea at a.steed's.life. I just printed mine.
5. Mirror from IKEA, totally free! (Plan to add some rope flowers on it too!)
6. Clock from Target, this was my splurge item.
7. Quote from the girls at Eighteen25, color options available.
8. Family picture
9. A piece of scrapbook paper framed.
10. A beautiful picture of Emmah!
11. Eventually these will be wooden blocks, with either photos or paper....can't decide.

That's what I have so far, but there are a couple more items I may add, but don't worry I'll fill you in when I add them!! I have some curtains to get to!!

  

My Gallery

Forever I have seen Wonderful gallery walls and have always wanted one of my own. Great idea....hard project! I mean you not only have to decide color, but what to include.  I thought about this long and hard and searched for LOTS of inspiration like this from Young House Love, which gave me some great ideas of what to include in my frames, and this one (which has a few ideas that I will be eventually adding to my wall!  Here is my first run at it: 

I left up the paper models for a day or so just to get the feel and make sure that I like the look and feel of the arrangement.

 I will be switching out some of the photos soon, as we just had some new pictures of the kids done.I definitely have some additions and want to add them soon, so I can take a little time to just look at it for awhile. We'll have to wait and see if there is any movement....

Makeover Monday

I am going to start a new weekly post....called Makeover Monday!! Since I am working slowing to add some finishing details to the rooms in my house. I decided that maybe you all should come along with me! Show me what you are making over and all the changes you are making!
 
I am going to start with Jake's room. Although we painted just about every room in our house when we moved in....that is sorta where I stopped. I had my friend Candice come over and help with a few details in the living room/dining room area, but never really went too far beyond. Well, I have decided it is time.
 
When we moved Jake wanted a baseball room and I was happy to oblige, I mean it would be cute, fun and grow with him pretty easily. I knew what colors I wanted and went straight for a grey that would easily compliment his blues and red striped comforter.

 

I then added a vinyl navy stripe to the one wall, since I had seen a really cool baseball player vinyl at Target and they showed it on a similar wall. I loved the look so we went with it!

 

A few weeks back Jake and I found this really cool Comerica Park canvas...he instantly fell in LOVE and it was afforable so I picked that up. I then a week later saw the smaller ones and he picked out Cabrera.

A year ago I purchased these fun magnet wires for the kids room and so when I finally decided where it should go added that. We now added a red striped rug on his wood floor and his room is complete!  

              I am hoping to eventually make this a linky party...but until I can get that all figured out just post a link to your makeover post in a comment! I look forward to seeing what you have in the works!

Decor To Do

As you know I have been on a real kick to get my house fully decorated, and my list just keeps getting longer...after 2 years I finally finished up Jake's room and added all the final details and it looks pretty good (I'll post some pics soon!) Well I have finally decided to get into Emmah's room and since she has given me some details that she would like to see, it makes it a little easier! She has settled on Paris/French! We added a vinyl Eiffel Tower, and now I am on a mission to find the perfect chair. I want to change out her dresser and get her a smaller one, and then add some wall art and a mirror. One of the best finds is an awesome foam chandelier from Hobby Lobby. It is meant for decoration, but will look great in her corner right above a chair.I would LOVE something like this...only maybe in a black and turquoise?? I want to find something vintage, yet french and shabby chic all at the same time! Now to hit the second hand stores!

I just can't wait to get it all together, now I have to find the right and yet cheaply affordable dresser! I have fun wall art planned too! Can't wait!

      

Gone Crafty

If you know me very well you know that I am pretty much ALWAYS crafting something or finding new things to add to my to do crafting list!! It is constanting changing and growing, and I frequently get lead astray and make quick edits and try other projects!!

My list also tends to change slightly when there is stress involved...this past week has definitely included that! So of course I got my crafting bug going! I worked and completed 2 projects, with another one in the works!

I will post the tutorial for this one later this week, it was super easy and perfect to add a little something special to a plain cork board.




I made this awesome star, and LOVE how it turned out! And the best part of these stars is that they are totally customized to my color scheme and taste. My daughter wants some for her room now...we'll have to see about that!



And just so you know, my list is getting longer by the minute! I have suddenly got into the kick of completing my decorated at the house, you adding curtains and wall decor, and best of all redoing my bedroom!! My husband isn't as excited about the last one, but oh well!!!

Shelf Art (tutorial)

I have these wonderful built in shelves in my living room...but they have caused me some decorating issues. For one, I am not great at it so didn't even know where to start. Good thing I have a very talented friend who helped me get them started.

Now that I have recently found some INCREDIBLE blogs with some great new ideas I have started to give some a try and use their encouragement to take the simple and make it special and great!

I found this great canvas at Michaels for super cheap and new I had to do something with it. So I brought it home and did some thinking....then I gathered some supplies.

I got the stamp from Michaels too, for $1!! I then decided that because the stamp was small it would need a little extra detail, so I went with some burlap I had on hand.

I cut my shape out of the burlap, then stamped my "family" onto the canvas. To glue on the heart I used E6000. Then looking at it, it still needed something some I added the bow to the hear to give it a POP of color. I also noticed my stamp was a little off center so I added a tiny rhinestone to offeset it. I am in LOVE with how it turned out!!

Here is my final product! And here it is on the shelf!

Decor Galore!

A Wreath For The Door

Since moving over a year ago, I have found myself with a TON of holiday decorations, yet somehow in the many boxes of ornaments and garland I didn't have a wreath!! I saw one I LOVED at Pottery Barn and decided....I could do that!! I also got a little inspiration from a couple of cousins who tackled this task as well. So here is my version.

First collect your supplies:
-green pipe cleaners, or tie ons of some sort
-fake evergreen wreath (18" or larger)
-glass ornaments in a variety of colors and sizes

Next I set all my ornaments out on my wreath and arranged them. Mixing up the sizes and placing them in random spots. Til I liked how they looked.

And this is what I ended up with:

I still have some fluffing to do, but I am really happy with how it turned out!! I hope you will give it a try too!!
